  • These data come from the National Climate Data Center and the Alaska Interactive Climate Database Map.
  • Average annual snowfall at the Haines airport is 171" (14.25').  This data covers 1949-1955 and 1973-1992.  National Climate Data normals from 1971-2000 for mean snowfall 92.8" (7.73').
  • Between 1973 and 2004, the highest total snowfall was 216.3" (18.03') in 1988.  The highest one day maximum was 38" (3.2') in 1975.
  • Precipitation:  Snowfall measurements are taken every day, then the snow is melted to find the liquid equivalent.  So precipitation measurements account for rain or snow or mixed rain and snow.  Some snow is fluffier than other snow, so this liquid equivalent gives an accurate measure of the  total precipitation.
